Bringing Vision to Life with Product Illustrations
The Problem
Our TMO team had a vision for a display screen in the T-Mobile Las Vegas Signature Store, but resources were tied up. They needed a reliable individual to step in and bring the idea to life.
Agency / Client
Key Objectives
Develop a dynamic visual presence that showcases physical products through digital illustrations.
Implement clay-style illustrations to avoid copyright infringements.
Establish guidelines for color combinations and pattern management in animations.
My Role
Alleviate team resource concerns by stepping into the project to define illustrations, motion patterns, and color schemes for phones, tablets, headphones, earbuds, and portable speakers, all to be displayed within the physical product space.
Challenges
Avoiding specific branded elements while ensuring product familiarity.
Balancing product shape and orientation to produce effective patterns.
Starting from scratch while working within an expedited timeline.
Outcomes
The display was launched alongside the grand opening of the two-story 9,000 square foot Las Vegas Signature Store, the fifth of its kind.
Exact sales metrics the display piece helped generate are unclear but the client came away extremely pleased with the final result.
My Key Takeaways
Sometimes things do come easy...everything fell into place, and the client quickly gave their approval.
Working with a motion designer offered insights into communication styles and storyboard handling.
I was able to broaden my expertise by stepping out of my comfort zone and exploring new tools that aided the illustration approach.
